SALMON ARM – Lori Schneider Wood from Sicamous has received a new digital camera as one of 12 British Columbians who have won prizes for pledging to make positive changes to their daily lifestyle through the World Healthy Living Challenge.

“Lori is a making a small change in her lifestyle and making a big difference in her life,” says Shuswap MLA George Abbott. “She’s pledged to live healthier, and commitments such as hers are helping B.C. become the healthiest jurisdiction to ever host the Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

The September and October 2009 monthly prizes include Olympic and Paralympic tickets, digital cameras, recreation passes, ActNow BC prize packs and more. Winners from the last two months live in communities that include Vernon, Powell River, Victoria, Kelowna, Sicamous and Nelson.

The World Healthy Living Challenge is a chance to join British Columbians everywhere and to invite your friends and family from around the world to step up and make the world a healthier place, in honour of the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. British Columbians can challenge themselves to eat healthier, get more physical activity or reduce their energy consumption by taking the pledge today and entering to win great prizes.

British Columbians can now use the ActNow BC Activity Map, a new online resource, to find people around the world who are taking the World Healthy Living Challenge, along with B.C. communities that are entered into GamesTown 2010. As well, the map includes event listings from across the province leading up to the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. To view the map and search, go to www.actnowbc.ca/event/map.

Since the World Healthy Living Challenge was launched in February 2009, more than 65,000 British Columbians have taken the pledge, along with many Canadians. As well, the pledge is available in 11 different languages and has been taken by people in 40 countries.

New winners are being chosen in the last week of each month leading up to the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Games. In total, 24 pairs of 2010 tickets and many other prizes will be awarded to British Columbians who take the World Healthy Living Challenge.
